Gateway to Skills

The Gateway to Skills Project is a unique collaboration between boroughs, schools and regeneration funding from the London Development Agency and represents a genuinely innovative way of addressing skills needs and challenging perceptions in an industrial sector not only important to London but the UK.

Gateway to Skills provides a vital link for schools in the promotion and awareness raising of Science, Engineering & Technology subjects and careers to help young people make the most of the opportunities from the Thames Gateway developments. The GTS team works with the Secondary Schools in Barking, Dagenham and Havering to help promote careers in Science, Engineering & Technology from Year 8 to Post 16 education with local employers to challenge perceptions.

The programme of activities includes:

  • Curriculum visits to local companies
  • Taster Engineering Days
  • Careers Talks & Events
  • Saturday Clubs
  • Teacher Development Programmes
  • GTS Foundation Modern Apprenticeship

The Gateway to Skills Centre, located within the main CEME campus is a new state of the art facility which provides curriculum support for GCSE/A Level Design Technology courses and access to teaching materials and industry standard equipment for secondary school students and teachers.
